To lower the emission of CO2 in the next years, KOGENERACJA S.A., as its strategic goal, adopted an increase of the share of biomass in the fuels it combusts. Currently, biomass is co-combusted at the units BC-1, BC-2 and BC-3 at Elektrociepłownia Wrocław.

Within the investment project at Elektrociepłownia Czechnica modernised and adjusted is one of the coal boilers to a fluidised bed boiler that in 100% will combust the biomass. After modernisation, it will produce from biomass 100t of steam an hour. This steam will be used for the production of electric power and heat for the needs of Wrocław and Siechnice. The operation of the fluidised bed boiler with the whole adjacent infrastructure for feeding the biomass will start in the beginning of the third quarter of 2010.
